Pretty Powerful Guyana

A "Pretty Powerful" event for girls in a Guyana community was conducted this July. Under the leadership of Debra and Tiffany Bazilio, this event offered the attendees an opportunity to learn more about themselves and empowered them to believe in the power of their dreams.

The girls, who were between five and thirteen were given exercises and lessons that dealt with topics such as self-love, identity, accomplishing future educational and career goals and general safety and wellbeing.

Reneka Stephenson, one of the young attendees, had recently completed the common entrance exam and placed first in her school. She was able to secure a place at Queens College. Reneka was given a hamper from the organisation to celebrate her success.

Girls With Roots offers sincere thanks to all of the sponsors, volunteers and speakers who made the event possible and a success. Without their montetary contributions, this event would not have been possible.

Many thanks go out to Brazos Workshop and Payless Variety Store, who donated shirts, shoes, lunch and snacks for the event.

An amazing team of volunteers, Diane Ross, Debbie Henry, Debra Bazilio, Debbie Boodie, Timica Bazilio , Lisa Ramkumar, Vedika Sahadeo and Adriana Daniels made the event a success.

It is this organization’s hope that outreach programs like this can continue to impact the lives of girls/ women of all ages as well as the lives of the volunteers involved.
